This is what happens when you're having too much fun in a conversation with another. I must credit my friend, Paula, for helping make this idea a reality. All we were talking about was how would Basil look in our time, what style of modern clothes would he wear. I simply said he'd probably dress like his voice actor, Barrie Ingham, and from that point on, sparked an interest to sketch it. I chose the same exact outfit I saw Barrie wear when I first met him on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Creation Entertainment convention. It was a blue button-up shirt, white trousers and cream-colored loafers. He wore an identical shirt in yellow on Saturday and a beige one on Sunday, but I liked the blue one the most. I also drew in the same style of a wrist watch on his left arm, just had to! For his right hand, I decided to use the LE 2006 pin of Basil as a reference and had him hold his pipe in it.

Basil was fully drawn by me and then colored in CorelDRAW Photo Paint 8. Click HERE to view the sketch. In the end, I decided to make this a tribute to the film's 24th anniversary and added in text using Broadway Font, the same Font used in the "All New! All Fun!" movie poster. To avoid confusion, the date format is typed the British way with the day first and the month second. The image of Big Ben is from a borrowed photo called Big Ben at Night from photographer Lee Stone. I contacted Lee himself and was granted permission to use it in the background. It is the only photo I inserted. The rest is all done by me using the blur tool to make various colors of a fog effect. The ground is supposed to look like cobblestone, but I did a pretty lame job. I just took the paint tool and changed it to a diamond-shaped brush with a dark gray color.
