The Great Mouse Detective (1986)

These fifteen (15) rough animation drawings in sequence of Toby with Basil, Olivia and Dr. Dawson riding his back were created by Disney animator Mike Gabriel in development of a scene in the animated feature based on the story by Eve Titus. These drawings are small figures of Toby seen at a distance—with indistinct images of Basil, Olivia and Dawson—as he sniffs about the street just before picking up Fidget's scent and tracking him to the Toy Shop.

Animator Mike Gabriel supervised these pursuit scenes at the opening of sequence 5, and these are his drawings. Mr. Gabriel has worked in animation at The Walt Disney Studios for over 30 years as animator, director (Pocahontas, 1995, The Rescuers Down Under, 1990 and Lorenzo, 2004), character and production designer, and art director. He worked on The Fox and the Hound (1981), his first screen credit appeared on The Black Cauldron (1985) and he was a character animator on The Great Mouse Detective (1986).

The animator wrote the designations "27", "35", "43", "45", "59", "63", "67", "71", "77". "79", "81", "85", "87", "91" and "105" at lower right to indicate each original's place in the scene. Our certificate of authenticity is included.
